How to start a podcast and make money
Hi! My name is Mari. I’m a mom to a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler, I work a 9-5 full time from home, I co-own a short-term rental business with my husband across four properties, and I’m still growing this online business. From the outside it looks like a lot — and honestly, it is. But it doesn’t feel chaotic anymore, and that’s entirely by how I’ve designed my simple business model.
In 2026 I made a decision: I’m no longer available to build a business that requires me to grind now and live later. I’m not willing to get to some finish line and realize I missed my daughter’s childhood, strained my marriage, and I’m still doing the same exhausting things I said I’d quit once I made it. I want to enjoy my life now while building toward something more.
And here’s the best part: it’s working. In the first three months of 2026 I’ve made what I made in all of 2025. We spend the weekends taking our daughter to Disney on Ice and golfing as a family. My business is growing faster than ever and my life feels better than ever.

Here’s exactly what has moved the needle.
The first shift toward a truly simple business model was stopping the creation of content that disappears.
Most content has a short lifespan (i.e. a reel, a story, a post). It gets seen, maybe, and then it’s gone. You’re back on the hamster wheel the next day creating something new just to stay visible. I opted out of that game entirely.
Instead I built a visibility engine (i.e. long form content that keeps working long after I hit publish). This blog post, for example, can be found two years from now, five years from now. Someone searches on Google or ChatGPT, lands on this post, binges more, and decides they want to work with me. That’s a completely different game than hoping the algorithm shows someone my Instagram post today.
And then I took it a step further. Did you know this post originated as a podcast episode?
Every podcast episode becomes a blog post. Now I’m showing up on Google and on podcast platforms. Every episode is a road to me. Every blog post is a road to me. And we’re even building toward showing up in AI search results — where, if you know how to use keywords strategically, you can show up before the paid ads.
The ROI on this content is indefinite. I create once and it serves me forever. That is what a simple business model actually looks like.
Last year I ran a free Telegram group. The people inside were amazing, but growing it felt hard. I kept asking myself: what would make this easier?
That question is everything when you’re simplifying your business. “What would make this easier?”
I tested a Facebook community. Within two weeks I had over 70 people join without little effort.
People are already on Facebook every single day. I just showed up where they already hang out.
And as a bonus, making that switch moved my podcast from a top 10% global show to a top 5% global show almost immediately, because listeners were finally tuning in through Apple and Spotify instead of inside a private messaging app where their plays weren’t counting.
In 2025 everything I did was one-on-one and required my full attention. Every client, every step, walked through together in real time. I thought I was doing them a favor. What I was actually doing was making them dependent on me and worse, slowing them down.
The truth is, as a client: you don’t always want to wait for me to answer a basic question. Sometimes you’re working at midnight. Sometimes you’re up at 5am and you just want to move. You want to take action and then come to me for the deeper stuff.
So I rebuilt my programs with clear action steps, written instructions, screenshots, and everything a client needs to move independently. Now when we work together we go deeper because the foundational questions are already answered. I’m not repeating myself ten times over. I’m showing up at a higher level.
One of my clients just told me it was the most thorough program she’d ever experienced. And I was thinking, wow that’s just the foundation.
That’s what a simple business model does. It creates space for depth.

On social media you’re fighting for attention every single day. The best hook, the right audio, the algorithm du jour. It’s exhausting, and you have zero control over it.
But what if you didn’t have to fight for attention? What if instead you just showed up where people are already looking, already searching, already wanting a solution?
That’s the game I’m playing. And it’s the simplest business model I’ve ever built.
